TEA. TROUBLESHOOTING. |
1. The tea is foamy, especially after adding sugar.
CAUSE:
Some unboiled water has slipped in during the process of teamaking.
SOLUTION:
Dump the tea, boil the water thoroughly and try again.
2. There's an oily film on the surface of the zavarka*, the tea has an unpleasant, sour taste.
CAUSE:
Tannin has been cooked out of the tea leaves.
SOLUTION:
Make new zavarka in a well steamed, hot pot. Do not heat it after it has cooled down.
3. An oily film has formed on the top of the diluted tea.
CAUSE:
Tannin has formed in the cup because it has been standing too long.
SOLUTION:
Make a new cup of tea. Drink it soon after making.
4. Water drips from the faucet of the samovar even when it is closed.
CAUSE:
The valve is not water-proof anymore.
SOLUTION:
First, try to use the other 'closed' position. If it doesn't fix the problem, clean the valve from the residual calx.
5. The zavarka pot as well as the tea have a rather repulsive odor.
CAUSE:
The wet tea leaves molded inside the teapot.
SOLUTION:
Dump the zavarka, and sterilize the pot. A UV lamp such as the one used for erasing EPROMs comes in handy.
ZAVARKA* - Tea concentrate. This is the most characteristic attribute of Russian tea-making.
